William Knighton Walter passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at the age of 94. William was born on January 30,1929 in Roaring Spring, PA, the son of William Clay Walter and Sarah Stella (Lingenfelter) Walter. He grew up on a dairy farm.

William graduated from Morrison Cove High School and Penn State University (graduated in 1954). William was a man who loved life and always kept busy. He worked hard and loved his job with Bechtel Corporation. He would always come home singing after work. Outside of work and family life, William was a Royal Secret 32-degree Mason and an active member of the Griffith Lodge no. 735 of Griffith, IN and Shriners International. While still living in Indiana, he was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church where he acted as treasurer until moving to Michigan, he then joined Zion Lutheran Church of Ann Arbor.

His hobbies included gardening, and working with his Lionel train set, and he loved traveling. His main spots were out west and Hawaii. William was an animal lover; he was particularly fond of cats. His special cat buddies were Sally, Tiffany and Maddie. He also loved his son-in-law Tom and daughter Cyndi's dogs. William was a loving and devoted husband to his late wife, Helen. He took great care of her and always put her needs before his own. Unfortunately, she passed away on February 24, 2016.

He is survived by his two daughters, Cynthia (Thomas) Boersma of Belleville and Karen Walter of Ypsilanti; two nephews John (Brenda) of Plant City, Florida, and Joe (Lynette) of Martinsburg, PA. William was the dear grandfather of Jennifer (Dave) Baibak, Heather Tousignant, and Thomas (Stephanie) Boersma. Proud great-grandfather of William and Parker Tousignant, and Megan Baibak. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, brother John Austin Walter and his sister-in-law Maxine Walter.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 from 4pm - 8pm at Stark Funeral Professionals, 101 S. Washington Street, Ypsilanti, MI  48197. Visitation also will be on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at 9:30 am at Zion Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Liberty Street, Ann Arbor, MI  48103. William's funeral service will be 10:30 am on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor James Debner officiating. William will be laid to rest in Highland Cemetery, Ypsilanti.
