Simpkins, William Kelly "Bill"

Ypsilanti, MI

Age 87, went to see our Father which art in Heaven Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born September 3, 1936 in Martin, KY, the son of Chester and Emma (Horn) Simpkins.

William preferred to be called Bill but was also known as "Red" during his time at Ford Motor Company. Throughout his tenure at the company, Bill held various positions that showcased his diverse skill set. Bill was an assembly and disassembly operator, drill press operator, burring operator, sandblast operator, floor crane operator, tumbler operator, and setup and maintain operator. Bill was also a production checker, which involved quality control and inspection. He meticulously checked the production process to ensure adherence to established standards and identify any issues or defects; Bill's attention to detail and ability to identify problems helped maintain quality standards at Ford Motor Company, for which he received acknowledgement. Bill retired in 1990 following 35 years of employment.

Bill's favorite hobbies included traveling, woodworking, building motors, collecting model trains, teaching auto mechanics, specializing in inboard and outboard motors, and building generators. Throughout his life, his passions guided him, gave him purpose, and fulfilled him. Whether it was exploring the world, creating with his hands, or teaching others, he dedicated his time and talents to following his passions with joy and enthusiasm.

He enjoyed various outdoor activities, including gardening, boating, fishing, camping, and sitting around campfires. He also cherished his moments of solitude and silence. Whether it was sitting at the campfire, surrounded by nature's beauty, or simply enjoying popcorn in front of his TV. The absence of noise gave him a sense of calm. These activities brought him joy and relaxation, allowing him to escape from everyday life and connect with nature.

Bill is survived by his son William Arthur Simpkins, daughter Lucille Ann Stephenson, granddaughters Marie Gaglio, Jenny Robinson, Miranda Simpkins, and Jessie Fleming; grandsons Matthew Simpkins, William Simpkins, and TJ Underwood; seven great-grandchildren and brother Shade Simpkins.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 42 years Elizabeth Jennie Simpkins, father Chester Arthur Simpkins, mother Emma Marie Simpkins, brothers George Simpkins and Paul Simpkins; sisters Callie Thompson and Emo-gene Devine; and great-grandson Raiden Fleming.

A funeral service will be held 11 am Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Stark Funeral Professionals. Visitation will begin at 10 am. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 2-8 pm Friday, December 22, 2023. William will be laid to rest in Highland Cemetery, Ypsilanti.
