Hurst, William Michael Sr.

Age 87, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2022 in Chelsea, MI. He was born June 13, 1935 in Big Rapids, MI, the son of William and Mary (Whalen) Hurst.

Mike enjoyed watching westerns and listening to country music, especially George Jones and enjoyed dancing with anyone willing. He loved playing and teaching euchre and picking up a quick game of pool at the (Rooster). Above all, he treasured spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of the most special things about Mike was his big heart and caregiving for his sisters and wife Mary. Mike was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He retired from IBEW Electrical Workers Local Union 58 in Detroit, MI. His fellow brothers and sisters within the IBEW affectionately called him Black Mike.

Mike is survived by his sons Mike (Terri) Hurst Jr., Jordan Mark Hurst, Mark (Lori) Uranga, John (Lorie) Uranga and James Uranga; daughter Susan (John) Kimbrell, brother Paul (Sandy) Hurst, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Danny and sisters Ellen, Nellie, Pat and Julie and his beautiful bride Mary (Uranga) Hurst.

The family will receive friends at Stark Funeral Professionals 4:00-7:30 pm Wednesday, December 14, 2022. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Thursday, December 15, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church Ypsilanti with visitation beginning at 10 am. Father Pieter vanRooyen will officiate. Mike will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Arbor Hospice .
