Virginia May Harwood Davis-Brown was born June 13, 1925 at Beyer Hospital in Ypsilanti, Michigan and died March 27, 2023. She was born to the union of Frank H. and Helen Alice (Collins) Harwood. She was the oldest of five children.

Virginia (Ginny) attended Begole School in Ypsilanti and graduated from Lincoln Consolidated School in 1942.

Virginia was the head cashier at A.P. from 1942-1946 and again from 1954-1965. She began working in 1965 working as office manager at State Farm Insurance alongside her husband Newton Daniel Davis whom she married on June 9, 1946. They retired in June of 1986. Newton passed away in December 1986 shortly after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. To this union Daniel Newton and Sandra Kay were born. Virginia married her high school sweetheart Charles William Brown on December 11, 1999.

Virginia was a member of Stony Creek United Methodist Church (Ypsilanti) since 1954 and continued to be a very active member until her death.

Virginia volunteered at Beyer Hospital Auxiliary from 1987-2000, Ypsilanti Historical Museum 1986 to present and the Gilbert Auxiliary beginning in 2006. She enjoyed crafts and helping others. She made hundreds of lap robes for the Ann Arbor Veterans Hospital. In 1990 she began knitting mittens and sending them to Kate Duncan Smith DAR School in Kentucky and Alabama. She also made and donated mittens to Belleville, Lincoln and Ypsilanti schools and baby hats for Beyer Hospital. She was a Sunday school teacher and superintendent.

Virginia was instrumental in getting the Lowden schoolhouse placed on the Lincoln School property. She also lived in that house before donating it.

Virginia belonged to many organizations including the Pythian Sisters: Grand Chief State of Michigan (Tipton), Daughters of the American Revolution: past regent of local Ypsilanti chapter, Ypsilanti Historical Museum , Business and Professional Women and her beloved Care Bears at Stony Creek United Methodist church.

Virginia is survived by her sister Shirley Slotka, brother Earl Harwood, daughter-in-law Theresa Lynn (Weir) Davis, son-in-law Earl Michael Matthews II, grandchildren Daniel Newton Davis II (Laura Nuckols), Elizabeth M. Isaacson, Jessica Lynn Davis and Robin Dale Matthews, great-grandson Zachary Daniel Davis and many nieces and nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands Newton and Charles (Chuck); her two brothers Harrison and James; her son Daniel, daughter Sandra and great-granddaughter Mallory Jane Davis.

Visitation will be held 4-8 pm Friday, March 31, 2023 at Stark Funeral Professionals. The funeral service will be 11 am Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Stony Creek United Methodist Church Ypsilanti with visitation beginning at 10 am.

Private burial will take place at a later date at Highland Cemetery in Ypsilanti, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the following:
