Ray, Thurman E.

Belleville, MI (Formerly of Ypsilanti, MI)

Age 96, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital. He was born June 20, 1927 in Ury, West Virginia to Emmit and Nellie (Cook) Ray.

In November of 1950 he married Margaret Lane in Welch, WV and she preceded him in death on August 26, 1996. Thurman worked at the General Motors Hydramatic Plant for 33 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Ypsilanti Pentecostal Church of God. He was a former member of Ypsilanti Moose Lodge for many years.

Survivors include son Michael Ray, daughter-in-law Phyllis Ray, grandchildren Levi (Angie), Chris (Kisha), Gerald and Amber; 14 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, sisters Naomi Causey, Rea Ann Shultz, Martha (Frank) Bevins, Lucille Lambert and Carol (Terry) Williams; brother Jessie (Sondra) Ray, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife of 45 years, Thurman was preceded in death by his parents, son Joseph, daughter Charlotte, daughter-in-law Nancy, son-in-law George, and siblings Madeline, Jean, Tom, Fred and Frank.

A funeral service will be held 1 pm Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Stark Funeral Professionals. Ron Nickert will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 11 am until time of service. Thurman will be laid to rest in Highland Cemetery, Ypsilanti.
