Hemingway, Sylvia Louise

Ypsilanti, MI

Age 96, passed away Monday, September 11, 2023 at Cedarbrook of Northville Senior Living in Plymouth, MI. She was born September 28, 1926 in Eglon, KY, the daughter of Oscar and Frances (Godley) Brockman.

Sylvia married James Hemingway August 8, 1958 and he preceded her in death March 20, 1966. She enjoyed reading and gardening. In 1960, Sylvia joined the congregation of Ypsilanti Free Methodist Church where she later taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Women's Missionary Society.

Sylvia is survived by her son Timothy Hemingway and sister Martha Greene. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Katherine Jeans and Rose Mary Bush, and brother Joseph Brockman.

A funeral service will be held 11 am Friday, September 15, 2023 at Ypsilanti Free Methodist Church (1800 Packard Street, Ypsilanti). Pastor Steve Glei will officiate. Visitation will begin at 10 am. The family will receive friends at Stark Funeral Professionals 4-9 pm Thursday, September 14, 2023 (101 S. Washington Street, Ypsilanti).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ypsilanti Free Methodist Church .
