On Saturday, January 15, 2022, Shirley Tomford, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at the age of 86.

Shirley was born on December 31, 1935 in Ypsilanti, MI to Roy and Margaret (Hess) Duede. On January 28, 1956, she married Glenn E. Tomford in Ypsilanti. Together they raised two sons, Glenn and Jeff, and one daughter, Kelly.

A lifelong Christian, Shirley was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. She worked as a cashier at Wrigley's and Great Scott Supermarkets. An ideal weekend for Shirley involved lots of shopping and going out to lunch. You could also find Shirley sitting on her swing and working crossword puzzles while watching her birdfeeder. She always made sure everyone had something to eat, even the city ducks as she fed them on a weekly basis. Shirley was her grandkids' biggest fan and never missed any of their sporting events. Whether it be cracking a joke or singing and dancing to her favorite songs, she was known for her bright and infectious spirit.

Shirley is survived by her three children: Glenn (Kathy) Tomford, Jeff Tomford, and Kelly Lawrence. She also leaves behind five grandchildren: Eric (Ryanne), Matt, Aaron, Chloe, and Callie. Her great-grandchildren include Gage, Kylie, and Harwell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers.
