On the beautiful morning of Saturday May 30, 1942, in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, Roy Lee Hunt was born. Joining a busy family, Roy was the fifth child of Leo and Girdia (Jervis) Hunt. Spending his boyhood in the hollers of Eastern Kentucky, Roy would tell stories of the mischief he and his siblings would get into. Moving to Michigan in his early teen years, Roy graduated from Willow Run High School and quickly worked to obtain his journeyman pressman apprenticeship to create the foundation of a long and fulfilling career at the Ypsilanti Daily Press before making his way to the Detroit Free Press .

Eventually making his home in Ypsilanti, MI, Roy and Sally (Crawford) welcomed two children, Jeffrey and Lisa. Roy enjoyed spending his time with his family and remained a solid support and comfort to Sally prior to her passing in 1998. When not with his family, Roy enjoyed spending time with friends at the local VFW or Coney Island reliving the "good ole days" over a cup of coffee or a piece of toast.

In the early spring of 1999, Roy gladly agreed to date a friend's daughter, and from there, Roy and Susan (Pettit) started their 27-year love story. Together and through the years, they enjoyed many trips up north, visits to family in Kentucky, New York and Virginia, and would enjoy the occasional trip to Florida. When home in Ypsilanti, they could be found gardening, pursuing a local flea market, or just going for an afternoon drive – typically ending in an ice cream cone.

Left to cherish Roy's sweet and silly memory are his loving wife, Susan; daughter Lisa (Billy) Stevenson; step-daughters Meghan (Jason) Snook and Lindsey (Michael) Bellor; grandchildren, Austin Stevenson, Brittany (Christopher) Hockey, Chelsea (Joseph) Vitale, Sarah (Tȟa Huŋku Čaŋté Wiča) Hunt, Timothy Hunt, Caitlynn (Michael), Madalynn (Jacob) and Brayden Snook; Ethan, Carter and Kyle Bellor; great-grandchildren Oliver and Owen Vitale and Aŋpo Wičáȟpi; sister, Emmagene "Gene"; brother Bill (Charlene) Hunt – and countless beloved nieces, nephews and extended family.

Ready to be reunited at the rainbow bridge will be Roy's beloved dog Abby. Together they will be embraced upon entry through the pearly gates by his parents, daughter-in-law Wanda, son Jeffrey, brothers Franklin & Paul, and sister Margie.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Roy's name to a charity that brings you joy would be greatly appreciated. Friends, family, and loved ones are welcomed to celebrate Roy's life on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Ypsilanti Missionary Baptist Church with viewing at 10 am, service at 11 am. Burial immediately thereafter at Highland Cemetery.
