Robert L. Jones, age 91, of Ypsilanti, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2026. He was born on July 18, 1934, in Syracuse, New York, to George E. and Celia B. Jones.

Robert was raised in Nedrow, New York, and proudly served his country in the United States Army shortly after graduating from high school. During his service, he was stationed overseas in Germany. Following his military service, he returned to the United States and later moved to Nebraska, where he attended the University of Nebraska. It was there that he met his wife, Linda, and began raising a family. He also earned his undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice.

Robert went on to work for the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Milan, MI, which brought him to Ypsilanti, where he made his home for many years. While working, he continued his education and earned a master's degree in Social Work from Eastern Michigan University.

He was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, attending faithfully for many years. In his later years, he continued to enjoy services online. Robert found great joy in playing golf and, above all, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, George Jones (1931), Thompson Jones (2015), and David Jones (2025); and his sisters, Dorothy Lambert (2002), Bette J. Lambert (2020), and Celia Jones (2023).

Robert is survived by his sisters, Mary Jones and Al and Barbara Geiszler; his children, Sean Jones, Vineta Pritchard, Robert Jones, and Christopher Jones; and his grandchildren, Dionte Jones, Blake Pritchard, Robert Williams, Quintez Jones, Sequoia Jones, Tenzin Ramos, Amara Jones-Ramos, and Sanaya Fisher. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 1 pm Thursday, May 7, 2026 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with in state beginning at 12 pm. Robert will be laid to rest in Great Lakes National Cemetery.
