Harper, Robert "Bob" Eugene

Van Buren Township, MI

Age 86, was received by his Lord Jesus Christ February 6, 2025 at home in Van Buren Township. He was born August 14, 1938 in Mineral, VA, the son of Eugene and Gertrude (Meek) Harper.

Bob started his career with Ford Motor Company in 1955 at the Ypsilanti plant. He performed many jobs. In 1967 he transferred to the Sheldon Road plant, where he retired in 1998 after 43 years with the company. He was a loyal member of UAW Local 845, where he ran for office and served many positions, including UAW Local 845 President. Upon retirement he accepted the position of President of the UAW Local 845 Retirement Chapter. He was proud to be a UAW member and grateful for his career at Ford Motor Company.

Bob was a parishioner of Grace Baptist Church in Belleville. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, bowling, watching old movies and attending UAW functions. He was the "master gardener" of his backyard, where he loved growing a variety of flowers.

Bob is survived by his spouse Susan Harper, brother Douglas (Susan) Harper, son Gregory (Terrie) Harper, daughter Deborah (Phoenix) Sodt, son Rick Harper, son Jeffery (Tamara) Harper, stepson Michael Purdy, 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, many nephews, nieces and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his heavenly wife Mary Florence Harper and brother Kenneth Harper.

Visitation will be 4-8 pm Friday, February 14, 2025 at Stark Funeral Professionals (101 S. Washington Street, Ypsilanti). A funeral service will be held 11 am Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Grace Baptist Church with viewing beginning at 10 am (164 Roys Street, Belleville). Robert will be laid to rest in Highland Cemetery, Ypsilanti.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church.
