Richard Powe, Jr. was born into time to Betty and Richard Powe, Sr. on August 3, 1969 in Chicago, Illinois.

Richard attended Accounters Community Academy, Shiloh Seventh Day Adventist High School and Oakwood Seventh Day Adventist College. Richard entered the US Army on May 3, 1988 and served faithfully until November 13, 1991. He was deployed to Korea whereby he received the Army Achievement Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon, 9mm Pistol Marksman, and the Hand Grenade Expert Award.

In 1995, Richard began his career with Northwest Airlines which was later acquired by Delta Airlines. He was transferred to Detroit and worked there for 30 years. In 2001, while working on a ramp, Richard met the love of his life, Kim. They were married on May 29, 2009. Kim was truly the love of his life, as he would always respond to her with "whatever you say Kim, whatever you want Kim, Yes Ma'am".

Richard was well known for his wonderful sense of humor. He loved his children with all his heart, and his only desire for them was that they succeed in life, being well educated and independent. He was such a dedicated family member whereby you would always find him at family gatherings; this he truly loved.

He was a man of few words and joked constantly.

Papa Rich was always feeding his grandkids candy and cookies.

He was a big Chicago Bears fan.

Richard was a Football and Wrestling Dad that would attend high school tailgates with personalized shirts, yelling "Let's Go RICO!".

Richard gave great show and food recommendations.

He liked hot sauce on everything and carried around his own Tabasco.

Richard could be always found holding a grandchild or fixing a technology item.

Richard was a member of the River of Life Assembly of God Church, where Pastor James Eddie Marcum is the officiate. He and Pastor Eddie were very close to each other. Pastor Eddie is honored to officiate at Richard's funeral.

On Tuesday morning, May 20, 2025, the God of life gave Richard Powe, Jr., birth into eternity. He leaves loving memories in the hearts of his wife, Kim; his parents, Betty and Richard, Sr.; Sister, Regina McMurty, his siblings Kevin, Kim and Keith McCloud; his children, Brittany Powe, Jwain Hughes, Amira Powe, Mason Powe, Lucian Powe, Jericoh Powe, Lindsay Andrade, Joshuah Long, Loni Hammond, and Gage Hammond; thirteen grandchildren, Jeremiah, Joaquinn, Karter, Lailani, Jhett, Kahlila, Milani, Theodore, Holden, Kamia, River, Kedrick, and Luciana; He is dearly loved by his Aunt Terry McKee, Uncle Theodore James Sr., Aunts Juanita James and Oshunrire Naomi James; cousins, Dwayne and Ronan Powe, Milliletti and Robert Forrest, Theodore James Jr., Michelle James, William James, Anthony James, Eric James, Donna Thomas, Robyn Stewart, Todd Thomas, Troy Thomas, Diamond McCreary, Gem McCreary, Jonathan James, Robert James, and many other loving cousins and a host of friends.

A funeral service will be held 3 pm Saturday, May 31, 2025 at River of Life Assembly of God. The family will receive friends 1 pm until time of service.
