Reahard, Richard "Rick" John

Ypsilanti, MI

Age 71, passed away February 14, 2025 at Trinity Health Livonia Hospital. He was born September 9, 1953 in Ann Arbor, MI, the son of James C. and Jane (Hinz) Reahard.

Rick was employed by the University of Michigan. He began his time there working at Yost Ice Arena, but soon transferred to Central Campus Recreational Building (CCRB) and worked as a Membership Services Assistant. He was awarded Employee of the Year in 2009-2010. He retired in 2014 after a successful 43-year career.

Rick was a steadfast Catholic, attending St. John the Baptist School and Church, St. Alexis Church and Transfiguration Church in Ypsilanti.

Rick was dedicated to family. His home was home for any of his family.  He was a beloved Uncle who made time for trips to the park, coney drive-in runs, shopping for toys and Dom's Bakery treats. Rick was a true friend to many, always ready to help anyway he could. At gatherings his sharp-witted humor ensured laughter and joy and will be deeply missed.

Wolverine Hockey and Football brought him great enjoyment as did friendly competition at the bowling alley. Simple things; a good meal, Me-TV and recalling funny stories from the past delighted him. Rick was a master story-teller, repeating the funniest parts to prolong the laughter.

Rick is survived by his sisters; Sally Hollis, Julie (Bill Kerr) Reahard, Mary (Richard) Plezia, and two brothers; Dennis Reahard and Timothy Reahard as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother; Jane (Hinz) Reahard, father; James C. Reahard, brother; Robert Reahard, brother-in-law; Richard Hollis, uncle; Richard Hinz and beloved grandmother; Mary Hinz.

A Funeral Mass will be held 11 am September 9, 2025 at St. John the Baptist Church with visitation beginning at 10 am (411 Florence St., Ypsilanti, MI). Inurnment at St. John's Cemetery will follow (1400 N. River St., Ypsilanti, MI). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, www.stjude.org or another charity that cares for children. Rick loved the little ones.
