Richard Leslie Bauer, age 90, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, at The Gilbert Residence in Ypsilanti, Michigan, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on January 5, 1936, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, Richard was the son of the late Edward Bauer and Mildred (Lane) Bauer. He graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1954, enlisted in the United States Navy in 1955 and he served for four years. He went on to dedicate 40 years of service as an engineer at Ford Motor Company, retiring in 1994. On May 18, 1984, Richard married his beloved wife, Dottie, at the Stony Creek Methodist Church.

A lifelong resident of Ypsilanti, Richard was a passionate sports enthusiast and an avid fan of the University of Michigan, Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, Detroit Pistons, and the Detroit Red Wings. He thoroughly enjoyed bowling, golfing, pitching horseshoes, traveling, and escaping to Florida for the winter months. Above all, his greatest joy came from spending time by the pool, being with his family and friends, and enjoying the life they built together.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mildred Bauer; his sister, Joanne Groh.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Dorothy (Dottie) Bauer; Brother, William Bauer (Tennesse); Children, Robert (Betty) Bauer (Baldwin MI), Richard Allen Bauer (Tecumseh MI), Richard (Anne) Hess (Belleville MI); Robin Lund (Mike) Ypsilanti MI, and Debbie (Jeff) Pipkin; six grandchildren, Max Lund, Richard Harrison, Aliesha (Russell) Wilson, Jacob Harrison, Logan Pipkin, and Jared Pipkin; one great-grandson, Bradley Harrison; and several loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cremation has occurred. A Celebration of Life will be held on September 5, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Ypsilanti Moose Lodge (5506 Stony Creek, 48197), with Pastor John White officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Richard's honor to A2 Hospice or The Gilbert Residence .
