Lafferty, Peggy Sue

Ypsilanti, MI

Age 85, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, July 8, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Peggy was a long-time resident of Ypsilanti, Michigan. She was born October 1, 1937 in Prestonsburg, KY, the daughter of William Milford and Amma Sue (Sherman) Day. On June 1, 1957 she married Reverend Ollie Lafferty Jr. and he preceded her in death February 19, 2016

Peggy worked as an assembler in the automotive industry up until she retired to spend more time with her family and friends. Peggy had a beautiful alto voice and was a longtime member of the Ypsilanti Community Choir. She enjoyed singing, playing piano, and had a love for animals, especially the neighborhood cats. Peggy was a member of Trinity Free Will Baptist Church. She loved attending church services and being with her church family. But most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Peggy is survived by her daughter Evelyn (Jim) Lafferty Sewell; grandchildren Heather (Brett) Weaver, Angela (Bill) Riley, Brandon Sewell, and Jennifer (Jason) Ingles; great-grandchildren Brady Micheal Lafferty-Weaver, Malina and Lincoln Riley, Chris, Jaden, Zacchaeus, Issac, and Malachi Ingles; and her sister Mary Ruth Jarrell (the late Fred).

In Addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents William and Amma Day; her siblings, Carl Day, Billy Day, Dottie Lackey, Olive Hoskins, and Betty Levine.

A funeral service will be held 12 noon (visiting starting at 11 am) Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at Trinity Free Will Baptist Church 410 Oregon Street, Ypsilanti 48198. Pastor Calvin Brown will officiate.

The family will receive friends 4-8 pm Monday, July 10, 2023 at Stark Funeral Professionals 101 S. Washington Street, Ypsilanti 48197.

Peggy will be laid to rest in Highland Cemetery, Ypsilanti, Michigan.
