Nellie Mae Briggs, age 92, passed away on January 21, 2026 in Adrian, MI. She was born on January 13, 1934, in Tazewell, TN, to Rufus and Hester (Whitaker) Goins.

Nellie worked as a bookkeeper for A&P Grocery for more than 30 years. Outside of work, she enjoyed traveling and camping throughout the United States, spending time in the kitchen preparing meals for family and friends, attending movies, and keeping close ties with her family through frequent visits and conversations.

She is survived by her children: Sue Ann Briggs, William Edward Briggs Jr., Thomas (Roxanne) Briggs, and Beverly Jean (Joseph) Simmons; her siblings: Rufus (Sandra) Goins, Barbara Pawlowski, Garfield (Barbara) Goins, Debra (Richard) Goethe, and Zelma Goins; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, William Edward Briggs Sr.; her parents; four brothers; and two sisters.

Cremation has taken place and she will be laid to rest next to her husband at Union-Udell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Lenawee Hospice Home .
