Thomas, Michael George

Ypsilanti, MI

Age 83, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2024 at his home. He was born December 18, 1940 in Detroit, MI, the son of Mike and Helen (Nihra) Thomas.

Michael loved nature, wildflowers, classical music, and his cats. He was a passionate gardener who planted many flower gardens in his community. He was an avid reader, and also a writer and poet, with over 20 books in his collection. He retired from his career as a CPA after 43 years.

Michael is survived by his children Susan (Thomas) Vandermeer and Scott Thomas; grandchildren Aaron Austin, Casey Lyons and Jordan Austin; great-grandchild Reese Lyons, siblings Maria (Larry) Krzesowski and Anita (the late Mel) Ellison; sister-in-law Grace Thomas, long-time dear friend and business partner Staci Steffani-Fuller, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jim Thomas.

A memorial service will be held 12 pm Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Stark Funeral Professionals (101 S. Washington Street, Ypsilanti). The family will receive friends at the funeral home 10 am until time of service. Inurnment will follow the service at 3 pm in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.
