May (Sherman) Dove was born on June 25, 1932 in Paintsville, KY. She married Roy Dove (the love of her life with whom she had been sweethearts since they were 11 years old) in Paintsville, KY on May 14, 1953. May had been employed with Willow Run Community Schools in food service until she retired in 2001.

She is survived by one daughter Teresa (David) James, one grandson Nicholas James, one granddaughter Katelyn James and one great-grandson Rory Hall-Miller. She also had three honorary daughters Jeanne (Meade) Mullins, Rhonda Edwards and Diane Smith. Other survivors include several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

May passed away in her home on Monday, March 6, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years Roy Dove, mother Maude (LeMaster) Sherman, father Alfred (Babe) Sherman, brothers Harry (Dode) Sherman, Roscoe (Buddy) Sherman and sisters Fannie Meade, Kathryn (Sis) Hurt and Edna (Pete) Wilson.

She enjoyed her time spent with family and friends. She was a very loving, kind, caring, generous person who was loved by all. She had a heart of gold and became friends with everyone she met. She will be truly missed.

A funeral service will be held 11 am Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Stark Funeral Professionals with visitation beginning at 10 am (101 S. Washington Street, Ypsilanti). The family will receive friends at the funeral home 4-7 pm Friday, March 10, 2023. May will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery in Ypsilanti.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one of May's favorite charities: Wounded Warrior Project , Disabled American Veterans Charity , Shriners Hospitals for Children or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital .
