Age 90, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022 at The Residence of Arbor Hospice. She was born June 16, 1931 in Ypsilanti, Michigan to Leo and Rachel (Bevier) Stachlewitz.

Mary was a life-long resident of Ypsilanti and member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where she was baptized and married her husband Paul Shipley on June 25, 1949. She was a member of St. Alexis Catholic Church in Ypsilanti and was active with the altar society. Mary retired from Eastern Michigan University after 23 years of service as the Secretary in the Accounting and Finance Teaching Department. She loved to travel especially to Hawaii and Florida. Mary was a voracious reader, loved to bake (chocolate chip cookies were one of her specialties), and enjoyed her garden with all of the home-grown roses Paul would plant.

Mary is survived by her children, John Shipley, Donald (Toni) Shipley, Patricia Doran, Susan Shipley, Deborah Shipley; grandchildren, Paul (Karen) Hibbens, Shawn Shipley, Melissa Shipley, Sara Shipley, Adam Shipley; great-grandchildren, Breanna, Rylee, Travis, Akira, Amari; great-great grandchild Adalynn and many nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friend Judy Griwicki.

She was preceded in death by parents, husband, children, Paul, Joseph and Linda; two brothers, Bernard and Robert; great-grandchild Long and son-in-law Don.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 16, 2022 from 4-8 pm with a Rosary prayed at 7 pm at Stark Funeral Professionals, 101 S. Washington St. Ypsilanti. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, March 17, 2022 at 11:00am with in state beginning at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 411 Florence St. Ypsilanti. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Linda Shipley Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund at Eastern Michigan University or St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Cancer Center.
