Age 90, passed away Thursday, February 2 , 2023 at home with her loving family by her side. She was born January 7 , 1933, in Denton, MI, the daughter of Demetrio and Maria (Zuniga) Chavez.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was married to Robert Decker for 64 years. She volunteered at a thrift shop in Romulus for 25 years. She was a very proud Latina who loved watching her telenovelas and dancing to salsa music. She had a heart of gold.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Decker of Oklahoma City; two sons, Robert (Georgia) Decker Jr. of Ypsilanti, and Thomas (Nancy) Decker of Belleville; siblings, Joe Chavez, Daniel Chavez, and Grace (George) Mallory; five grandchildren, Tonya Decker, Jeremy (Debbie) Fitzgerald, Emaleigh (Jason) Meador, Thomas Decker II, and Brandi Decker; many great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert Decker;her son Steven Decker; her sisters Josephine Reyes and Alice Goode; her brothers Jimmy, Bobby, and Benjamin Chavez.

A funeral service will be held 1 pm Monday, February 6, 2023 at Stark Funeral Professionals with visitation beginning at 12 pm. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 5-8 pm Sunday, February 5, 2023. Mary will be laid to rest at St. John Cemetery in Ypsilanti.
