Hopkins, Marilyn Sue

Saline, Michigan

Age 80, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2024 in Saline, Michigan. She was born February 26, 1944 in Marion, Indiana, the daughter of Chester and Esther (Highway) Carey. She married Philip Hopkins June 10, 1966 in Redding, California, and he preceded her in death.

Marilyn called Redding, California home. She relocated to southeast Michigan in 2014. Marilyn worked as a missionary for 17 years, living in El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. She later taught kindergarten in Red Bluff, California.

Marilyn was a longtime member of The Church of the Nazarene who loved reading the Bible. She enjoyed sewing, painting, hiking and camping, especially in the mountains of California. Above all, she treasured time spent with her five grandchildren.

Marilyn is survived by her son Mark (Debbie) Hopkins, daughter Gabriela (Bill) VanderMolen, grandchildren Mark Hopkins Jr., Samuel Hopkins, Abigail VanderMolen, Adam VanderMolen and Andrew VanderMolen; and brother James Carey.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and sister Martha (Larry) Lugar.

A funeral service will be held 11 am Monday, July 15, 2024 at Ann Arbor Christian Reformed Church (1717 Broadway Street, Ann Arbor). Visitation will begin at 10 am. Marilyn will be laid to rest in Marble Park Cemetery, Milan.
