Marie M. Butler, age 85, passed away March 3, 2026 at her home in Ypsilanti, Michigan. She was born November 23, 1940 in Montcalm County, Michigan, the daughter of Leonard and Violet (Moulter) Newland. Marie attended Willow Run High School. On July 26, 1958, she married John L. Butler, and he preceded her in death.

Marie worked for many years at Forbes Cleaners and was a longtime member of First Wesleyan Church of Ypsilanti, where she attended regularly. She enjoyed family get-togethers, camping, and spending time with those she loved.

She is survived by her children, Brenda (Edward Sr.) Schneider, Brian (Sherry) Butler, Kevin (Monica) Butler, and John E. Butler; siblings, Blaine Newland, Beulah (Terri) Holland, Joanne (Joe) Komaromi, and Paul (Marjean) Newland; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Jerry Butler.

A funeral service will be held 12 pm Monday, March 9, 2026 at First Wesleyan Church with visitation beginning at 11 am. The family will also receive friends at the church 4-7 pm Sunday, March 8, 2026. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family or First Wesleyan Church would be greatly appreciated.
