Mae Willie Hamilton-Baker departed this life Wednesday, February 2, 2022 in Westland, MI. Born Mae Willie Joes on May 12, 1919 in Jackson, Mississippi to Anna T. Haze and Jonius Jones. Mae was later adopted by her aunt Ethel Haze. The family relocated to Fort Myers, Florida. After high school she moved to New York to become a seamstress, she loved to sew and knit heartfelt items. Not long after she moved back near her hometown to obtain her cosmetology license in Miami, FL. She then opened a salon in the back of her house and eventually opened one in an upscaled area they referred to as "UP-TOWN' in Florida.

Mae met her husband Eli Hamilton who was a cook, embalmer, and served in the Military. They both wanted children, and God blessed them with their daughter, Phyllis Maria Hamilton.

She later relocated to Michigan where she worked at University of Michigan hospital as a housekeeping supervisor. She also worked as a nanny for Mary and Skip LeFauve for several years. Outside of her full-time position, Mae continued sewing and maintaining an alteration business inside of her garage, where she built her own sewing shop. In her later years she worked for Senior Alliance as a secretary.

Mae was a very independent, driven, sweet, caring and loving woman. She enjoyed meeting new people, volunteering in the community, and watching The Word Network. Mae was truly a jack of all trades and uplifted the spirits of everyone she encountered. Her angelic voice and laugh brought a smile to your face instantly, she always puts others before herself regardless of the relation.

She leaves to cherish 101 years' worth of memories with her daughter Phyllis M. Williams, four grandchildren, Donti (Donyale) Hamilton, Jermaine Hamilton, Lakeesha Reed and Tony Williams Jr.; thirteen great-grandchildren, Sha'Meka Hamilton, Shakees Hamilton, Dony'e Hamilton, Jayla Wright, Jermaine Hamilton Jr., Chris Hamilton, Taylor Hamilton, Tony Williams III, Tony Deshawn Williams, Amia N. Williams, Janae Matlock, Zy'Airr and Marquis Love; three great-great-grandchildren, Antonio Roberson, Cecilie Luvene and Achilleus Elledge; special family members, Solomon (Dulcie) James, Nicole (Tracey) Hinton, Candice (Paul) Hobbs, Solomon James III, Edward James, Andra Bishop, Nailah Bishop, Willie (Mary) Lee, Christina Spencer and Jimmy (Pat) Riddick; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Eli Hamilton and Clifford Baker; sisters Flora Haze, Betsy Haze and Jannie Mae (Solomon) James; and niece Nancy Mae Bishop.
