Madeline Rose (Kayfesh) Rieder, age 79, passed away peacefully in her home on November 18, 2025. She was born on September 15, 1946, to Michael and Madeline (Plesha) Kayfesh.

Madeline built a long and dedicated career at the University of Michigan, serving in Administration for 29 years before retiring. Her professionalism, kindness, and steady presence were appreciated by all who worked alongside her.

Throughout her life, Madeline made her home in Ypsilanti, Michigan, with meaningful chapters spent in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, and a short but memorable time in California. She was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where her faith remained an important cornerstone of her life.

Madeline found her greatest joy in her family. She loved doting on her children and grandchildren, celebrating their milestones, and surrounding them with unwavering affection. Her interests were many: she enjoyed reading, trivia, true crime stories, old movies, and traveling—especially to visit her daughter in California. She delighted in bargain-hunting at Value World, antique collecting, discovering unique art, listening to all kinds of music, and going out to eat with her family. Her spirit was warm and witty. Those who knew her can easily imagine her now in heaven, happily chatting with the angels.

She leaves behind her beloved children: Amber Rieder, Christine Rieder (Mark) Case, Anne Rieder (Duane) Lute, and Tom (Stephanie) Rieder; brother, Steve Kayfesh; sister, Marie Goble; her treasured grandchildren: Evan (Brooke) Case, Benjamin (Sarah) Case, Dylan Hutchinson, Matthew (Jamie) Case, Madeline Rose Maskill, Marion Case (Nathan) Owen, Emily Rieder, and Noah Rieder; and six great-grandchildren, who brought her tremendous joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Madeline Kayfesh, and sisters Pauline Bowring and Laura Thiede.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 11 am Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10 am (411 Florence Street, Ypsilanti). The family will receive friends 5-7 pm Monday, November 24, 2025 at Stark Funeral Professionals (101 S. Washington Street, Ypsilanti).
