Madeline Marie Balogh, age 98, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026. A longtime resident of Ypsilanti and formerly of Taylor, Madeline lived a life defined by quiet strength, deep love for her family, and a lifelong curiosity about the world.

She was born on September 21, 1927, in Detroit to Joseph and Larena (Schneider) Alflen. In 1950, she married the love of her life, Daniel Balogh, at St. Francis Cabrini Church in Allen Park. Together they built a warm and welcoming home and raised six children.

Madeline was a longtime member of the Friends of the Ypsilanti District Library and an avid reader who could often be found with a book in hand. She had a deep appreciation for art and music and expressed her love through her cooking, especially her exceptional Hungarian dishes that became treasured family traditions. She also loved to travel, and in 2016 she fulfilled a lifelong dream when she journeyed to Hungary with her six children to visit their ancestral home.

Though quiet and reserved by nature, Madeline possessed an inner strength that was evident to all who knew and loved her. Her gentle presence, steady guidance, and enduring love will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her children: Daniel Balogh; Nancy (Jeff Kuhns) Balogh; Amy Balogh; Susan Balogh; Diane Hobbs; and Mary (Paul) Powell. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren Yaotequia, Brent, Landon, Kyle, Alexis, Daniel, Jeff, Erich, and Beth, along with many beloved great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Balogh, and her parents.

In keeping with Madeline's wishes, no formal services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Michigan Medicine's Parkinson's Foundation Center of Excellence .
