Louise Virginia Johnson, lovingly known as "Mama" to her children and "Granny" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, slipped away peacefully on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the beautiful age of 93. She was surrounded by the very people who had cherished her from the moment she entered their lives.

Louise was born on Monday, September 19, 1932, in Charleston, Missouri, to Maude Ella Brown and Alec Johnson, Louise carried a gentle spirit from the very beginning. She moved through life with a calm strength—never one to raise her voice, argue, or meet hardship with anything other than quiet determination. Her faith was her anchor, and she made sure that everyone she raised knew the Lord for themselves.

As a teenager, Louise's family relocated to Arkansas. Life brought challenges, but she met each one with resilience and grace. She worked as a domestic and an in-home caregiver, pouring love not only into her own children but into many others who found comfort under her roof. Her home was always full, always warm, and always open one was ever turned away.

In 1974, Louise made a courageous decision that changed the course of her family's future. She moved her children to Kalamazoo, Michigan, so they could pursue their education. Through her unwavering support and sacrifice, all eight of her children went on to attend college, trade school and served in the military. Their success stands as a living testament to her strength, vision, and unshakeable belief in what her family could become.

Louise's kitchen was the heart of her home. Countless memories were made around her table—plates full of good food, rooms full of laughter, and stories that will be told for generations. She loved deeply, served joyfully, and created a home where everyone felt seen and loved.

For more than 30 years, she was a devoted member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Kalamazoo. She sang in the Chancel Choir and gave countless hours of service to those in need. In her later years, she made her home in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where she continued to be surrounded by family and love.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Daniel Norman, William Henry Jones, and George Tyson. She leaves to cherish her memory her sisters Jewel Jimerson (James) and Blanch Joyce Cornelius; her eight children—Milton Prunty, Addie Farmer, Doris Freeman, Edward Johnson (Andrea), Charles Johnson (Shelia), Helen Smith, Bobby Johnson (Benjie), and Blanch Wiley (Samuel); 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. She also leaves behind a large and loving extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Her legacy is woven into every life she touched. She will forever be remembered for her kindness, her gentle strength, her unwavering faith, and above all, her boundless love.

The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday March 7, 2026, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 2145 Independence Blvd., Ann Arbor, MI, 48104. Family hour begins at 11 am. The Service begins at Noon.
