Lawrence "Rocky" G. Roberts went home to be with the Lord on January 15, 2026, passing peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving wife, Sherry, and dear friends.

Born on May 11, 1945, in Pontiac, MI, Rocky was the son of Glendon and Elaine Roberts. He spent much of his life in the Ypsilanti area, where he built meaningful relationships and was known for his warm spirit, friendly nature, and strong sense of community.

Rocky proudly served others through his career with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, working as a transporter at the Ann Arbor VA Hospital for 22 years before retiring in 2004. His dedication to veterans and compassion for those he served reflected his generous heart and steady work ethic.

A man of deep and abiding faith, Rocky was a devoted member of Ypsilanti Baptist Temple. His faith guided every aspect of his life and was evident in his kindness, integrity, and willingness to serve others. A skilled woodworker, he lovingly crafted the cross displayed at Ypsilanti Baptist Temple, a lasting testament to his faith and talents.

Rocky had many interests and passions. He enjoyed woodworking, collecting train memorabilia, and working in his yard, where he took great pride in planting and caring for flowers around his home. Above all, he loved people and never met a stranger, greeting everyone with genuine warmth and conversation.

He married Sherry Cartwright on August 5, 2006, in Newberry, Michigan, and she survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Nina Roberts; granddaughter, Jayla Bywater; stepson, Jamie (Josie) Cartwright; stepdaughter, Melissa (Zach) Johnson; and step-grandchildren, Ellie Cartwright, and Jacob, Eli, Abby, and Evelynn Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glendon and Elaine Roberts, and his beloved daughter, Brandy Arnold.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Ypsilanti Baptist Temple, officiated by Pastor James Clay. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Ypsilanti. The family will receive friends from 2-8 pm on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Stark Funeral Professionals.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or to any charity that supports and assists veterans.

Rocky will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his generous heart, his craftsmanship, and the joy he brought to everyone he met.
