Chavez, Jose D. "Joe"

Age 81, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital. He was born June 4, 1942 in Ypsilanti, MI, the son of Demetril and Maria (Zungia) Chavez.

Jose loved to travel and ride his motorcycle. He enjoyed playing guitar and Nintendo and listening to music of all kinds, especially oldies. He was an avid sports fan who regularly watched boxing matches and football games on TV.

Jose is survived by his children Debbie (Nate) Simpkins and Joanna (Ron) Hutchinson; grandson Christopher Hutchinson, brother Daniel Chavez, sister Grace (the late George) Mallory, and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his partner of over 35 years, Shelby Goble, his parents, brothers James Chavez, Robert Chavez and Benjamin Chavez; sisters Mary (Chavez) Decker, Josephine (Chavez) Reyes and Alice (Chavez) Goode; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 1 pm Monday, January 22, 2024 at Stark Funeral Professionals. The family will welcome friends at the funeral home 11 am until time of service. Jose will be laid to rest in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Ypsilanti.
