José R. Colón, age 91, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026 at home in Ypsilanti, MI, surrounded by loving family. He was born in 1934 in Ponce, Puerto Rico and grew up in New York City.

He is survived by his two daughters Yvette Colón (Kathryn Smolinski) and Lisette Colón; four grandchildren: Edward Sweeney, Matthew Price, Eric Price, and Jessica Pachana; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was a loving son, husband, partner, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Antonia (Madrazo) Colón, his companion of 10 years, Elsie Roca, and his parents, Tomás and Adelaida (Torres) Colón.

José was a retired Army National Guardsman and home builder. He was a history buff, enjoying books and movies about ancient Rome. He enjoyed playing slot machines at casinos around the country and working on cars.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place.
