Martin, Johnie Robert "Pete"

Ypsilanti, MI

We lost a true angel Wednesday, June 14, 2023 when Johnie R. Martin departed this Earth to re-enter his true home. To those he touched during his long and productive life, his departure will leave unique and personal holes in our hearts. He was born May 1, 1938 in Tampa, FL, the son of Harold G. and Louise C. (Nails) Martin.

Pete retired from Ford Motor Company after 31 years working at the Rawsonville plant. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking but most of all he enjoyed helping people. He was a handyman and everybody called him for help. We would always say, "Just call Pete."

He was an avid lottery player and you would often find him playing his lucky numbers at the local party stores. If you needed to see him, guaranteed he would be at one of those spots! Pete loved football and basketball. He adored his grandkids, always eager to show his friends the pictures he carried of them in his wallet. Pete had a very special bond with his granddaughter Carly.

Pete is survived by his brother Harold (Lupe) Martin, sister Theresa (Kenneth) Martin, son Robert (Kwiona) Martin, son Phillip (Katelyn) Martin, step-son Randy (Christine) Daulton, step-son Randy (Paula) Daulton, grandchildren Kyla, Keysha, Danielle, Andrew and Carly; and great-granddaughter Aerie Patricia, just born April 11, 2023. He is also survived by Jo Ann Bonds with whom he shared 23 years of special companionship, taking care of Pete until his very last breath.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Martin, son Johnie Martin, daughter Cheryl Martin, parents Harold and Louise Martin, sisters Ollie Martin and Harriet N. Martin; and brother Phillip Martin.

A funeral service will be held 1 pm Sunday, June 18, 2023 at Stark Funeral Professionals. Pastor John White and William Lundy will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 11 am until time of service.
