On Thanksgiving Day, November 28th, Johnnie Mae Hensley passed away after a brave battle with cancer. She was with her daughter and son. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, and aunt to her biological family, church family, and found family.

Johnnie Mae was born in Tazewell, TN, on October 20, 1939 to Dewey and Lillie Mae (Sartain) Painter. She was the youngest of seven children. Johnnie Mae resided in Ypsilanti, MI, since she was 16 years old.

Johnnie Mae was married to Francis Lee Linn for 27 years and they had two children: Sandra Linn Daniels and Johnny Linn. Johnnie Mae was later married to Blaine Hensley for 15 years. She was widowed for 20 years.

Johnnie Mae was a homemaker and mother who also enjoyed a variety of part-time jobs such as a lunch lady at Edmondson Junior High School, produce worker at Coleman's Farm Market, and a caretaker of children.

It was Johnnie Mae's joy to crochet baby blankets, lap robes, potholders, and dish towel holders for all her loved ones. She also loved daily word searches, Amish Christian Romance books, and The Wheel of Fortune. Her favorite activity was talking to people and making new friends until the end of her days.

Johnnie Mae attended Ypsilanti Missionary Baptist Church devotedly, but she also enjoyed visiting other Baptist churches for singing, women's Bible study, senior activities, and revivals. She also taught Bible study classes for children. Her life revolved around her church family.

Johnnie Mae is preceded in death by her loving husband, Blaine, sisters June Immajean and Mary Maggilean; and brothers Paul (Dona), Lemuel Dewey, and Herbert. She is survived by her children, sister Lois (Ernest) Young, sister-in-law Lillian Painter, special "sister" friend Mary Baker (who was her guardian angel on Earth), special "grandson" Michael Huspen, Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, and church family members.

Viewing will take place 4-8 pm Monday, December 2, 2024 at Stark Funeral Professionals (101 S. Washington Street, Ypsilanti). A funeral service will be 11 am Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at the funeral home with visitation beginning at 10 am. Johnnie Mae will be laid to rest in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton Township.
