John Allen Winkelseth III, age 63, passed away on June 18, 2026, in Ypsilanti, MI.

He was born on September 15, 1962, in Augusta, GA, to John Allen Winkelseth II and Dorothy (Sheppard) Winkelseth. He later made his home in Michigan, where he built a life centered on family, hard work, and the pursuits he enjoyed most.

An Equipment Repair Specialist by trade, John was known for his mechanical abilities and strong work ethic. He had a lifelong love of hockey and baseball and enjoyed learning about American history. He was also a devoted fan of classic rock music and found great joy riding his Harley-Davidson. Above all, John cherished spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren.

In recent years, John "Winks" found great joy in the hockey community. He dedicated countless hours to coaching hockey, sharing his knowledge and passion for the game with players. He loved keeping in touch with former players and was genuinely interested in how they were doing. Through his work at DW Skate Shop, he became known not only for expertly sharpening, repairing, and contouring skates, but also for the genuine relationships he built with customers and their families.

On December 30, 1989, John married the love of his life, Kerry Buck, in Oshkosh, WI. Together they shared many years of love, laughter, and memories.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Kerry Winkelseth of Ypsilanti; daughter, Meagan Winkelseth (Josh Chavarria) of Milan; son, Sean (Madison) Winkelseth of Indianapolis, IN; and grandsons, Ryland and Lane Winkelseth. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Allen Winkelseth II and Dorothy Winkelseth.

John will be remembered for his love of family, his quiet strength, and the many memories he created with those who knew and loved him.

John will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery.
