Gibson, John Wayne "Cowboy"

Age 73, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family Sunday, July 9, 2023. He was born December 5, 1949 in Prestonsburg, KY, the son of Farley and Minerva (McGuire) Gibson.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and watching sports. He loved playing the guitar and mandolin and listening to old country, bluegrass and doo-wop music. He was part of a doo-wop band in high school.

John is survived by his daughter Sheila Gibson (Ricky), grandchildren Samantha McGeorge, Marylynn McGeorge, Alyssa Loomis and Taya Loomis; siblings Lily Ingram, Christine Randolph (the late Gene), Jerry "Bud" Gibson (the late Debbie), Farley "Gene" (Cindy) Gibson; and brother-in-law Dennis Schultz.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sally K. (Hayes) Gibson, parents Farley and Minerva Gibson; siblings Shane Gibson and Barbara "Rhodie" Schultz; and grandson Anthony David McGeorge.

A funeral service will be held 1 pm Friday, July 14, 2023 at Stark Funeral Professionals with visitation beginning at 12 pm. Captain Laura Lunnam will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 3-8 pm Thursday, July 13, 2023. John will be laid to rest in Highland Cemetery, Ypsilanti.
