Roberts, Joel L.

Ypsilanti, MI

Age 86, passed away Friday, January 26, 2024 at his home. He was born November 27, 1937 in Madison, TN, the son of Robert and Virginia (Binkley) Roberts.

Joel worked as a firefighter for many years and was the acting fire chief of Ypsilanti Township in 1988. He was member of the Shriners-Masons, Ypsilanti Eagles 2250 and Ypsilanti Moose Lodge #782. In his free time, Joel enjoyed golfing, building tables, tinkering in the garage and restoring cars. He loved to play golf and was an avid hunter.

Joel is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Joy, daughter Karla (David) Gower, grandchildren Kyle (Talisha) Gower and Dayna Gower; great-grandchildren Karter, Niles and Mikailyn; and siblings John Roberts and Gayle Hunt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Scott Roberts and siblings Hillard Roberts, Norma Grundy and Betty Patton.

The family has chosen simple cremation.
