Joanne Alberta Kennedy, age 77, of Ypsilanti, made her transition on January 31, 2026. She was born November 24, 1948, in Ypsilanti to James Arnett Kennedy and Rose Marie Kennedy. She spent most of her life in the Ypsilanti community she loved.

She worked for over 27 years as a patient care technician at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, where she was known for being dependable, caring, and good with people. Joanne was a member of Whitehead Memorial Church of God in Christ. Her faith was an important part of her life.

She enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes, shopping, watching movies and football, traveling, and caring for her houseplants. Joanne loved dressing up, wearing her favorite jewelry, and keeping her hair and makeup done. She especially enjoyed buying gifts for family and friends and spending time with children and loved ones.

She is survived by her daughters, Dana Jackson and Jeri Jackson; her brother, James Arnett Kennedy Jr. (Dorothy Kennedy); her grandchildren, D'Erick Burch, Kiera Jackson, Tanajah Jackson, Andrew Denton, Donte Gardner, and Jada Gardner; four great-grandchildren; and a host of family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Arnett Kennedy and Rose Marie Kennedy; her sister, Linda Renee Kennedy; and her former husband, Jerry Allen Jackson.

Services will be held Monday, February 9, 2026, at 11 am at Whitehead Memorial Church of God in Christ, officiated by Elder Avery Brown Jr. The family will receive friends 4-8 pm Sunday, February 8, 2026 at Stark Funeral Professionals.

Joanne will be remembered for her steady presence, her care for others, and the love she had for her family.
