Janice Hagen

Ypsilanti, MI

Age 95, passed away Monday, May 16, 2022. She was born March 21, 1927 in Knott County, KY, to Farris and Helen (Dyer) Ritchie.

During WWII, her father came to Ypsilanti to work at the Bomber Plant and Janice graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1945. After high school, she attended Bowling Green Business College in Bowling Green, KY. She then returned to Ypsilanti to work for Kaiser-Frazer Motor Car Company from 1946 to 1952.

On May 8, 1948, Janice married the love of her life, Derwood Hagen. He preceded her in death in 2011. She was a great 50's and 60's mom and enjoyed being involved in her girls' school, Girl Scouts and sports activities. Janice also worked part-time in the Registration Office at Eastern Michigan University from 1972 to 1978, which she thoroughly enjoyed, and served as an election official for the City of Ypsilanti. She enjoyed playing bridge with neighbors and loved to laugh.

Janice is survived by her daughters Debra (Donald) Bailey and Marcia (Dennis) Speer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Farris Ritchie, Jr., and sisters Frances Hayes and Wanda Paris.

Special thanks to Doug Speer with whose help both Derwood and Janice were able to stay in their home as long as possible. Also, thank you to the wonderful caregivers at The Gilbert Residence in Ypsilanti and the caregivers at Heart to Heart Hospice in Southfield, MI.

There will be a private burial at Highland Cemetery.
