Willis, MI

Age 90, went home to be with her God and her family Thursday, January 9, 2025. She was born September 16, 1934 in Milan, MI, the daughter of William "Ted" and Alverta (Schaeffer) Towler. On July 25, 1952, she married Robert Daniel Riggs in Angola, IN and he preceded her in death May 24, 2006.

Janet worked at the Ypsilanti Ford Motor Company plant for 39 years before retiring in 1991. She began her career on the production line and later became a relief worker. A parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Janet was a devout Catholic who prayed daily and truly loved God. She was incredibly generous, giving and kind.

In her free time, Janet enjoyed playing cards, reading, watching movies and NFL football. She loved birdwatching and playing bingo, especially with her sister, and cherished time spent with her grandchildren. In their younger years, she loved riding on the back of her husband's Harley.

Janet is survived by her son David Riggs, former daughter-in-law Cheryl Riggs, daughter-in-law Janice Riggs, son-in-law Steve Jones, grandchildren Nathaniel Held, Melissa Held, Robert Stevens, Nora Stevens, Brandon Jones (Kate Cox), Aaron Jones, Christy Jones, Heather Riggs, Jon Riggs, Kimberly Riggs, Kevin Riggs and Austin (Janell) Riggs; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

In addition to her beloved husband of 54 years, she was preceded in death by her parents William "Ted" Towler and Alverta MacDonald; children Deborah Jones, Michael Riggs and Sandra Stevens; and siblings Bruce Towler, Larry Towler, David Towler and Sandra Johnson.

Cremation has taken place. Graveside inurnment at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery will be scheduled in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Janet's memory may be made to two of the charities that mattered most to her, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Shriners Children's Hospital .
