Jane Elizabeth Frye, age 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at her home in Superior Township, Michigan. She was born December 8, 1943, in Derby, England, the daughter of Herbert and Millicent (Gaskin) Smedly.

A former resident of Belleville, MI, Jane was a lifelong horse enthusiast whose passion shaped much of her life. She worked as a horse trainer at Detroit Race Course and kept her own horse in the stable just across the street—an arrangement she loved and cherished. Jane was well known as a devoted and knowledgeable "horse woman," happiest when surrounded by the animals she cared for so deeply.

She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Howard Frye; her stepson, David (Josephine) Frye; and her step-grandchildren, Oliver and Olivia. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Michael Smedly.

A funeral service will be held 4 pm Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Stark Funeral Professionals with visitation beginning at 2 pm (101 S. Washington Street, Ypsilanti).

Jane will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, and her lifelong devotion to the horses she loved. Her memory will remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
