James M. Lee, Veteran Navy Corpsman, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2023, in Ann Arbor, MI. He was 69.

James was born on March 9, 1954, in New York, NY. As an infant, he moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was the youngest of two born to Lily M. Lee, née Wootan. His family later settled in Ann Arbor, MI where he graduated from Huron High School in 1972. At an early age James dedicated his life to the Lord. James joined the Navy Marines and became a Corpsman as a young adult where he was able to serve his country and travel the world. During his time in the Navy, some of his favorite pastimes were boxing and playing basketball. He earned an Associate's degree in the Culinary Arts program from Washtenaw Community College in 1988, and continued to foster his skills and love for cooking.

James has left behind his life partner of 38 years; Deborah A. Van Horn, his children, James A. Kelley, La'Kecia Marie Lee, and Asia M. and Ayona K.M. Van Horn – Lee; six grandchildren, Jazmin, James II, Wisdom, Ta'Nye, Jacob and DJ; and a host of other friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents; great aunt Susianna Wootan, affectionately called Nana, and brother Walter T. Lee.

A funeral service will be held for James at 3 pm Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Stark Funeral Professionals. Pastor Gordon Moore will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 2 pm until time of service.
