James Thomas Hinman, age 81, passed away peacefully in his home in Ypsilanti, MI. He was one week shy of his 82nd birthday. He was born on January 25, 1943 in Toledo, OH, where he was raised by his aunt and uncle, Evelyn and David Mull.

After high school, James went on to earn an associate's degree in architectural drafting. He eventually went on to technical school that led him to his career at Ford Motor Company as a tool and die maker. James devoted 35 years to his work before he retired in 1998.

On September 12, 1981, James made Elaine his wife. The two of them had a simple courthouse wedding in Belleville, but had an elaborate celebration afterward at their home on Button Street in Ypsilanti.

After retirement, James and Elaine had more freedom to pursue their love of travel. They took many vacations and cruises together all over the world, but Florida was their most frequent destination.

With his drafting experience, James became a talented drawer and painter. He would occasionally use this hobby to help him relax. His favorite past time was spending time out tinkering in the garage and working on his cars. He was especially talented when it came to working with Bondo!

James leaves behind his three sons, Charly (Heather) Hinman, Joe (Jody) Ball and Chris Hinman.

Five grandchildren, Sheyanne, Madison, Jacob, Kylee and Taelyn.

Three great-grandchildren, Aiden, Liam and Aria.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine.

His siblings Gary, Dennis and Sharon.

Simple cremation has taken place. No services are planned at this time. Donations in James' memory may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation .
