James was born May 28,1968, in Beyer Memorial Hospital in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He died suddenly at his home, Thursday, April 16, 2026.

James graduated from Faithway Baptist School in 1986, and was an employee of Pizza Perfect, in Ypsilanti, for more than 20 years.

He is survived by his Father, James Merritt Grapp, Sr., his Mother, Barbara L. Grapp, Son, James Dean (J.D.) Montgomery of Belleville, Michigan; Brother, Robert Grapp (Mary) of Canton, Michigan; Great Aunt, Shirley Reeds of Florida; Great Uncle, Lawson (Willa) Murphy of North Carolina, Uncles, Roger Grapp of Ypsilanti, Lee Hammontree of Pentwater, Michigan, and Dennis (JoAnn) Hammontree of Frisco, Texas; two nephews, a niece, and several cousins.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 24, from 4 pm until 8 pm and from 10 am until 11 am. Saturday, followed by the funeral at 11 am. Both will be held at the Grace Baptist Church, 164 Roys Street, Belleville, Michigan.

James's father will be officiating the service.

Donations in honor of James may be made to Grace Baptist Church in lieu of flowers.
