James Kenneth Calhoun, of Michigan Center, MI (formerly of Ypsilanti) passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024 at the age of 85.

James was born on February 24, 1939 in Cullman, Alabama to his parents Joseph Grady and Rilla Naomi (Wallace) Calhoun. He was a 1957 graduate of Ypsilanti High School and proudly served in the U.S. Marines from 1957-1960. To provide a good life for his family, Mr. Calhoun dedicated 27 years to a career as a pipefitter at General Motors, Willow Run.

James was a long-standing member of the Ypsilanti Eagles where he enjoyed spending time with the many friends he made there. His favorite activity was spending time out on the golf course building lasting memories with his closest friends.

Above anything else, James loved his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

He is survived by his daughter, Shelley Calhoun (Richard Howell) of Michigan Center, MI; Daughter-in-law, Deborah Calhoun of Saline, MI; Six grandchildren, CJ Cogswell (Heather Palmer), James Cogswell (Nina Moore), Josh Cogswell (Maria Rojas), Cameron (Kadence) Cogswell, Austin Calhoun and Alicia Calhoun; one great-granddaughter, Isla Cogswell, with two more on the way; and one sister, Juanita (Bob) Perry of Birmingham, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jewel Calhoun and his dear son, Kenneth Calhoun.
