Iva Jean (Dyer) Roe

We are sad to announce the peaceful passing of Iva Jean Roe of Saline, Michigan.

Born July 23, 1928 on the family farm in Salyersville, Kentucky. Iva Jean and her twin brother J B became the eleventh and twelfth children of Dora Watson Dyer and Leonard Dyer.

Iva Jean and J B graduated together from Salyersville High School in 1948. Following graduation Iva Jean, J B, her sister Maude and brother Hetzel moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan, seeking better employment opportunities for each of them.

Iva Jean secured a position at Ford Motor Company, Ypsilanti where she met Carl "Curlie" Denver Roe. They were married July 25, 1949. They became lifelong partners, as Curlie built two of the homes they lived in. After 59 loving years together, Curlie passed away September 21, 2008.

Iva worked for Ford Motor Company, Ypsilanti for 33 years. She moved from the assembly line to a quality control position, which she took very seriously.

Iva Jean remained close to her sisters and brothers, enjoying their company and friendship. Curlie raised a huge garden from which she preserved the produce and shared with others. She also quilted with those sisters who lived close and continued after their deaths until her health prevented this pursuit.

Iva Jean is survived by a daughter Connie (Jim) McCasey, Saline, grandchildren Beverly Anne (Denny) Moyer, South Lyon, Brian Michael (Maggie) McCasey of Long Grove, IL, Robert James (Olivia) McCasey, Arvada, CO, Gavin Roe and Hannah Roe. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Brooke, Riley and Drew Moyer, Scarlett and Cameron McCasey; sister Melovee Walworth, Peoria, IL, daughter-in-law Cyndi Roe and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son Donald Carl Roe and his first wife Leisa Jean (Daves) as well as six sisters and five brothers, including her twin brother J B.

A funeral service will be held 11 am Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church (1007 Ecorse Road, Ypsilanti). The family will receive friends at the church 9:30 am until time of service. Iva will be laid to rest in Oak Grove Cemetery, Chelsea.
