Clay, Henry Gene

Age 91, passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday, January 13, 2024 at his home. He was born September 25, 1932 in Portageville, MO, the son of Alfred "Rip" and Naomi "Faye" (Haggard) Clay.

Henry worked as a Quality Control Inspector at Ford Motor Company for 42 years until his retirement in 1997. He attended Calvary Baptist Church in Ypsilanti. He loved horses and was a member of the Monroe County Sherrif's Posse and Augusta Township Mounted Patrol.  Henry married Janice Rae Joerin October 26, 1963 in Ypsilanti, MI, and she survives.

In addition to his wife Jan Clay, Henry is survived by his daughter Norene Andersen, son Brian Clay, brothers Bill (Sandy) Clay and Bob (Doris) Clay; sister Martha Dyer; grandchildren Alexis Andersen, Justin Andersen and Nick Saros; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Dorothy Nelson.

A funeral service will be held 11 am Friday, January 19, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church with visitation beginning at 10 am (1007 Ecorse Road, Ypsilanti). Pastor Dr. James Newcomer will officiate. Henry will be laid to rest in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI.
