Age 91, George Allen Towles went home to be with his Lord on May 28, 2023 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He was born December 15, 1931 in Owens, West Virginia to Emery and Lelia (McIntire) Towles. George retired from Ford Motor Company in Ypsilanti after 30+ years. His father was killed in a coal mine accident in WV when George was just four years old and he started working in the coal mine himself at the age of 14. He then joined the National Guard at age 17 and was granted an honorable discharge. George made his way to Cleveland, OH where he performed with the John Howard Tucker Chorus until he married Rosemary Bloomfield and started a family. He worked as a Bailer Press operator in Cleveland while also working with the Kroger Bakery. As that marriage ended, George joined the Merchant Marines from about 1960-1966. Sometime in the mid 1960's, he made his way to Michigan and married Loretta Huddleson, they had two children. Years after that marriage ended, he met Doris, the love of his life and they married on April 30, 1983.

George was quite the bowler, he bowled with a few different leagues back in the day. He loved engaging with people, whether it was story telling about his adventures, discussing politics and the economy or talking about the Bible, especially the book of Revelations. One could always know when George was in the room because of his infamous "train whistle" which he delivered proudly and enthusiastically. He would also break out in a song just about anywhere and he especially loved the song 'The King is Coming.' He was generous and grateful for any acts of kindness and could always find the good in someone.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Doris; children Renee (Harold) Wilburn, Randy (Cindy) Towles, Rita (Neal) Clinthorne, Rowland Towels, Lelia Towles (Anthony)  and George Towles Jr.; step-children Soundra Wilson, Tony Kilbourne (Diane) and Pam Earl (Mark); grandchildren Ryan Towles, Bradley Clinthorne, Christine Haid, Arielle Clinthorne, Felix Clinthorne, and Tyler Towles; step-grandchildren Nioka Staton, Nicole Wilson, Shawn Wilson, Hallie Wilson and Eric Shunk; and great-grandchildren Sydney Curtis, David Clinthorne and Eleanor Haid.

He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Esther, Eura, Eloise, Doris, Bud "Emery", Sis "Lenora" and Robert.

Visitation will be Friday, June 2, 2023 from 11 am until time of service at 1 pm at First Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Scott Caudill and Pastor Walker Harris officiating (1244 Holmes Road, Ypsilanti). Burial will be at Washtenong Memorial Park at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. The family would like to express gratitude to Trinity Health Home and Hospice for their support and care at the end of his life. A special shoutout to Gail Essenberg for her friendship and support over the years.
