Age 97, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 26, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 29, 1927 in Ypsilanti, MI, the son of Earnest and Martha (Ames) Throne. He married Phyllis Ann (Ault) Throne November 4, 1950 in Ypsilanti.

George was a lifelong resident of Ypsilanti Township along the shore of Ford Lake.  He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947. As a high school senior, George drove a school bus.  After graduating from Lincoln, George became a dairy farmer until he was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1955.  During his time in the Army, George spent a full year in Germany where Phyllis eventually joined him before they returned home in 1957.  George was very proud of his military service and cherished the memories made in Germany.  After leaving the Army, George resumed his farming career and continued doing that until 1974.  In 1963, George began working for the Washtenaw County Road Commission where he was well-known for his skills as a heavy equipment operator.  George retired from WCRC in 1988 after a 25-year career.  In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, and bird watching. George also had many friends and was active in euchre clubs, dinner clubs, and camping clubs. He was also a parishioner of Stony Creek United Methodist Church where he volunteered for many church events.

George is survived by his children, Robert Throne, Marilyn Throne Putman and Michael (Cynthia) Throne; grandchildren Michael Putman, Georgina (Aiden) Kinser, Daniel Throne, Jonathan Throne and Sarah Throne; great-grandchildren, Grayson Kinser and Aria Kinser; and sister-in laws, Marie Throne and Helen Read.  George is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his loving wife, George was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest Throne, Martha Throne, and step-mother Unabelle Throne; siblings, Orval Throne, Berniece Moxley, Rex Throne, Leo Throne, Geneva Thomas, Harland Throne and Paul Throne; son-in-law Timothy Putman, and great-granddaughter Adilynn Gray.

A funeral service will be held 11 am Thursday, May 1, 2025 at Stony Creek United Methodist Church (8635 Stony Creek Road, Ypsilanti). Pastor Michael Vollmer will officiate. The family will receive friends 4-8 pm Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at Stark Funeral Professionals (101 S. Washington Street, Ypsilanti) and at the church 10 am until time of funeral service on Thursday. George will be laid to rest in Washtenong Memorial Park, Ann Arbor.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stony Creek United Methodist Church in Ypsilanti or Heartland Hospice.
