Age 94, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2023. She was born on November 13, 1928 in Ypsilanti, MI to Alvin and Margaret (Smith) Anderson.

On May 5, 1950 she married Vernon Leighton in Ypsilanti and together they enjoyed 65 loving years of marriage prior to his passing in 2015. Elva was a member of First Baptist Church of Ypsilanti and worked at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital as a supervisor for 23 years.

Survivors include her children Diane (Jere) Yoder and Thomas (Trish) Leighton, both of Ypsilanti; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sister Trudy Lay of Ypsilanti and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two brothers.

A funeral service will be held 11 am Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Stark Funeral Professionals with visitation beginning at 10 am. Pastor Mathias Buckson will officiate. Elva will be laid to rest at Union-Udell Cemetery in Ypsilanti Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Ypsilanti online or by mail: 1110 W.
