McCoy, Earnest Milton

Ypsilanti, MI

Age 99, was called home to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 28, 2023. He was born February 21, 1924 in Ranger, WV, the son of Robert and Leza (Hayes) McCoy.

Earnest married Elsa I. Webb December 31, 1945 in Hamlin, WV. He loved farming and gardening. After two years in the Army, he returned home and worked in the coal mines until he broke his back. He then ran a gas station and owned a tv and radio repair shop. He later moved to Michigan and went to work at Ford Motor Company, retiring after 18 years.

Earnest is survived by his children Kirby A. McCoy and Rhonda G. Vanover McCoy (Randall Vanover); sister Stella Miller McCoy, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elsa I. McCoy, parents Robert and Leza McCoy; and siblings Arange McCoy, Cash McCoy, Easter Sanders McCoy, Reverend Ward McCoy, Willard McCoy and Kermit McCoy.

A funeral service will be held 2 pm Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home in West Hamlin, WV. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6-8 pm Monday, April 10, 2023. Earnest will be laid to rest at Sanders Cemetery in Ranger, WV.
