Earl R. Harwood passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 13, 2023 at the age of 92.

Earl was a lifelong resident of Ypsilanti. He was born to his parents Frank and Helen on November 9, 1931 and grew up with his four siblings.

After graduating from Lincoln High School, Earl joined the Marine Corps and proudly served during the Korean War. Upon his return home, he met the love of his life, Janice. The two of them were married and went on to start a family of their own.

Earl retired in 1994 after devoting 44 years with Ford Motor Company. He worked hard to provide a good life for his family and made sure that all their needs were met. Unfortunately, his wife Janice passed away very shortly after his retirement.

Earl went on to enjoy his life with many hobbies and interests. He continued to work in his gardens of both flowers and vegetables. He knew all the tips and tricks to produce outstanding results. He also loved woodworking, fishing, hunting and was a puzzle master.

Overall, he loved to spend time with his family. They would get together on Sundays to share a good meal and there was also a cabin in McKinley where they would gather to enjoy nature together.

Earl was a kind man with an excellent sense of humor and peaceful demeanor. To know him was to love him and he will certainly be missed by many.

Earl is survived by his sister Shirley Slotka, children Eric (Renee) Harwood, Nancy (Michael) Bateman and Bruce Harwood; grandchildren Eric, Brandon, Matthew, Steven, Truman, Madison and Mekenzie; great-grandchildren Cameron and Chase. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Janice, son Jason, parents and siblings Virginia, Harrison and James.

A funeral service will be held 1 pm Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Stark Funeral Professionals (101 S. Washington Street, Ypsilanti). The family will receive friends at the funeral home 4-7 pm Friday, November 17, 2023 and 12 pm until time of service on Saturday. Earl will be laid to rest in Alban Cemetery, Ypsilanti Township.
