Burr, Dennis Eugene "Denny"

Ypsilanti, MI

Age 73, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2022 in Livonia, MI. He was born November 13, 1948 in Wichita, KS, the son of Delmar and Berniece (Fenton) Burr.

Denny graduated from North High School in 1966 and then earned an Associate's Degree in Auto Technology from Butler Community College in 1968. After joining the U.S. Marines in 1968, Denny performed one tour of duty in Vietnam where he was assigned to the 1 ^st Marine Aircraft Wing. He was promoted to Corporal in 1970 and was then assigned to the color guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery 1971-1972.

After his discharge from the Marines, Denny and a friend moved to Ypsilanti, MI where Denny later graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1998. He worked as a tool maker for 14 years and then spent the remainder of his career working as an accountant.

Denny had a love of the outdoors and nature from a very young age. He spent many days exploring the open wooded area near his home during his childhood years. This continued to be true for Denny throughout his adult life. He loved being outside and especially loved skiing. He spent many weekends at Boyne Mountain in Michigan and took annual trips Breckenridge, Colorado. This love of skiing led to a membership with the Sierra Club and service as a camp guide and leader. Denny arranged and led many trips to North Manitou Island, where he loved to cook (burritos every Friday night) and help work to preserve the land with cleanups and restoring of historical sites. He was an impressive, calm leader and helped bring love of outdoors to many people throughout his 20-year Sierra Club membership.

In addition to being an avid outdoorsman, Denny was known for his love of food. He frequently visited local restaurants to sample cuisines from all around the world. He loved to cook for friends, especially on those camping trips. Denny enjoyed music, attending concerts and festivals.

Denny is survived by his sister Pat (Chuck) Hoffman as well as many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Virginia and niece Debbie.

A graveside service will be held 10 am Friday, September 9, 2022 at Marble Park Cemetery in Milan, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to Sierra Club Foundation .
