Novak, David Courtney

Ypsilanti, MI

Age 84, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born August 26, 1937 in Ypsilanti, MI, the son of Courtney and Frieda (Wilkens) Novak.

David worked as the National Offices Service Manager at Kelsey Hayes for 36 years prior to his retirement in 2001. He was an active member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Ypsilanti Historical Society and Museum, and Ypsilanti Automotive Heritage Museum. He coached many youth sports over the years. David enjoyed traveling, boating and playing golf. He also relished auto racing, collecting and reading history. Most of all, he loved spending time with family and friends. He married Joyce Wales October 24, 1959 and she survives.

In addition to his wife Joyce, David is survived by his children Brian Novak, Scott (Kristy) Novak, Eric (Melissa) Novak and Mark (Liz) Novak; brothers Donald "Crow" (Carol) Novak and Derwood "Doe" (Laurie) Novak; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be held 11 am Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Stark Funeral Professionals (101 S. Washington Street, Ypsilanti) with visitation beginning at 10 am. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 5-8 pm Monday, July 18, 2022. David's final resting place will be Union-Udell Cemetery in Ypsilanti Township, MI.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Southeast Michigan Land Conservancy .
